The door came off its tracks
What an off-track repair looks like
A door hanging at an angle, one cable slack or snapped, a panel half out of the opening, or a door that stopped mid-travel and will not move either direction. It usually comes from a bump, a broken cable, or a roller that finally let go.
What not to do
Do not pull the release and try to wrestle it back, a door at an angle under spring tension is a few hundred pounds of unpredictable weight. Do not run the opener again; a jammed door under motor power tears hardware and can damage the opener. Keep people and cars out from under it.
What to do instead
Shut the opener off if it is still running. If the door is blocking a car in an unsafe way, a gentle steady pull to guide it closed by hand is sometimes possible, only if the door moves freely and smoothly. If it binds, resists, or drops on one side, stop. The repair is putting it back on the track safely, replacing what failed, and rebalancing the door, a one-visit service call in most cases.
