Off-Track Repair

A door off its tracks looks dramatic, hanging at an angle, cable slack, sometimes a panel half out of the opening. It is also one of the more common calls, usually after a bump, a broken cable, or a roller that finally failed.
What not to do
Do not try to force the door back into the track or run the opener again. A door at an angle under spring tension is heavier and less predictable than it looks. Shut the opener off, keep people and cars clear, and make the call.
How the fix goes
The pro secures the door, releases the spring tension safely, puts the door back on the track, replaces whatever failed, cable, roller, or bracket, and resets the balance. Usually one visit unless a panel is damaged badly enough to swap.
